Watch Review: Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 68

In history, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf was the more vigorous version of the Sea Wolf dive timepiece. As Zodiac carry on to flesh out its vintage-inspired "Heritage collection," the latest entrant as of 2015 is the new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 68 which is almost alike the also-new Sea Wolf. Note that even though each of these watches is founded on the design of actual historic Zodiac wristwatches and each matches their original looks very carefully, the Sea Wolf and Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 68 in fact look very different, and pretty much only share in common the detail that they are both dive watches and have comparable names.

Even though the modern Sea Wolf is meant to be a stylish dive watch for sport or casual determinations, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 68 (which is reference ZO9501) is more of an old-style sport watch that could simply be taken diving. Whereas the Sea Wolf watches are water resilient to 200 meters, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 68 is water resilient to 1000 meters, making it a much tougher model. I also want to add that despite the fact the case is water resilient to 1000 meters, it does attire with a comparatively slim profile given the case design.

The 44mm-wide tonneau-shaped case is a bit you'll see from several other 1970s-era sport watches and shows up again nowadays in many modern divers. It's a very useful and unique look that, for me, says "submersible" much more than dive wristwatches that have more old-style round cases with lugs. Part of the case's thin profile look comes from the point that the case tapers on the back with a bubble-style back. This means that even though you can't feel it on the wrist, the case-back spreads back the lugs as a minimum of a few millimeters.

Those in quest of a very definite type of vintage-style dive watch with this sort of tonneau-style case at a sensible price will really love the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 68 dive watch assortment. Those who have at no time tried out a case design like this may also be enjoyably surprised. I will, on the other hand, note that this is very much a sports wrist watch, so I wouldn't try to get away with wearing a Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 68 while put on a suit like you could do with the standard Zodiac Sea Wolf.
